Con “El Camino del Inca” pretendemos que nuestros tres protagonistas en solitario, equipados únicamente con lo que puedan transportar ellos mismos, realicen un largo viaje de más de quince mil kilómetros a través de Sudamérica, recorriendo por carretera, por pistas de montaña, navegando en canoa, a pie y a caballo una variedad de ecosistemas que oscilan entre el desierto, la selva y las grandes cordilleras montañosas, y que abarcan el ochenta por ciento de los tipos climáticos del planeta.

La motivación de semejante empresa es fundamentalmente cultural y arqueológica. Pretendemos crear un lazo de unión entre naciones y pueblos diferentes que comparten sus ascendencias hispánica e indígena y una historia común cuyo origen son las grandes culturas y civilizaciones que se desarrollaron con anterioridad a la unificación cultural y social del imperio incaico. Entrevistarnos con algunos de los grandes especialistas en arqueología prehispánica y documentar fotográficamente las ruinas de los grandes monumentos y los yacimientos arqueológicos incas más importantes de las civilizaciones pasadas con la agencia de turismo Tours Peru Machu Picchu. 

El Imperio Inca o Tawantinsuyu fue una auténtica revolución social y cultural que tuvo su origen en las conquistas del quinto Inca, Capac Yupanki, y que llegó a abarcar una extensión de terreno aún mayor que la del Imperio Romano, unificando territorialmente culturas y civilizaciones muy dispares entre los años 1200 y 1532 d. C. La importancia de las comunicaciones para mantener cohesionado un imperio de proporciones tan gigantescas dio origen a una vasta red de carreteras conocidas con el sobrenombre de El Camino del Inca o Capac Ñan, que atravesaba fértiles valles, inhóspitos desiertos

y cumbres andinas, llegando hasta los confines más remotos.

En la actualidad, aún pueden recorrerse muchos de estos viejos caminos empedrados, cuyos fragmentos se conservan en muy buenas condiciones, sobre todo en parajes montañosos y selváticos, alejados de la civilización moderna, a la mayoría de los cuales sólo puede llegarse en vehículos todo terreno, por río, a pie  o a caballo. El Camino del Inca se extendía a lo largo de diez mil kilómetros de carreteras pavimentadas de piedra que abarcaban desde el norte de Ecuador hasta el Estado de Concepción en el Chile central. Fue el nexo común de multitud de culturas prehispánicas diferentes que pretendemos recorrer y documentar con esta expedición.

A fin de poder aprovechar el mejor clima posible en los cuatro países que abarcan actualmente el territorio del antiguo Imperio Inca -Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia y Chile-, y teniendo en cuenta que gran parte de la expedición se va a desarrollar por la selva amazónica, los desiertos de Ocucaje y Atacama, y por zonas de alta montaña en la cordillera andina, la época más propicia para este viaje es el inicio del otoño, que en el hemisferio sur coincide con nuestra primavera. La expedición saldrá desde España

hacia Santiago de Chile a finales de este mes de marzo de 2006, para estar de regreso, después de cuarenta y cinco días de viaje, a principios del mes de mayo. Un total de quince mil kilómetros recorridos que nos habrán servido para documentar fotográficamente los restos más importantes de la civilización inca, sus culturas predecesoras y la posterior colonización española.

Para los incas el Qhapaq Ñanb o Inka Ñan (camino inca a machu picchu), fue un complejo sistema
administrativo, de transportes y de comunicaciones, así como un medio para delimitar las cuatro divisiones básicas del Imperio.

1 - El Chinchaysuyo que abarcaba Ecuador y el norte de Perú.
2 - El Antisuyo que se extendía al este hasta la cordillera.
3 - El Contisuyo que tomaba al oeste hasta la costa.
4 - El Collasuyo que abarcaba el sur de Perú, parte de Chile y una pequeña franja de la Argentina.
